Ain't Saturday morning grand?

Photobucket

(Oops I guess it's actually afternoon now. Whatever, morning is a relative term. I've been know to call 4:30 pm "morning")

Work and school are still safely on the other side of the known universe, you got to see your
favorite Weezer cover band last night, and now all that's left to do is eat some fruit salad and think about how many unbelievably productive things...can totally wait till Sunday.

Ooooops

Ah, I feel so bad! Not too long ago, someone contacted me (on here? On email? On flickr? On livejournal???) asking about some scans I posted somewhere from an ancient issue of JANE magazine (RIP). Predictably, I forgot all about it, and now for the life of me I can't figure out who it was that asked and where and I feel like a royal douche about it.

So, just in case the curious party is a reader of this blog, here are said scans. They are from an editorial in the February 2002 issue, which I still own and, in the event of an untimely death, would like to be buried with (loved ones please take note.)

The best part is that the whole thing is narrated by Jane Pratt herself, talking about her crazy hippie upbringing, which I find both hilarious and relatable.

Seafoam Dream

I cannot tell a lie: this is, in fact, what I wore yesterday, but since I didn't manage to get any real-time documentation, I recreated it for y'all today. Because I can.

Photobucket

This is probably my favorite top that I own. The color is perfect, it's really old, I got it for crazy cheap, and it has so many nice details (Lace! A pocket! Pleating!) Too bad my camera's batteries died before I could get up close and personal.

Also, on the topic of ripped tights: this is a trend I had resisted for a long time, since I in no way consider myself badass enough to pull it off. Then one day, I got a run in the third mo'fo'ing pair of black tights I've bought this winter. And wouldn't you know it, I suddenly became REALLY, RIDICULOUSLY BADASSS.

Bah!

Photobucket

A new RUSSH already??? Oh but I'm already so woefully far behind!

P.S. Am I the ONLY person left who hasn't fallen under the spell of Jethro Cave? Seriously, I DO NOT COPY ON THAT. He just looks like an overgrown version of some smelly, snot-nosed little kid who was mean to mean in the fifth grade. Sorry Jethro, you're probably a cool dude and all but in regards to your appeal I can only say puke town central.

Things I would like right now:

Photobucket

A sweater made of roses.

Photobucket

A pair of enormous leather satchels FIVE TIMES THE SIZE OF MY HEAD.

Photobucket

A bunch of hydrangeas shoved into my belt, and a pair of soft, slouchy pants (seriously, if it were acceptable to wear flowers like this, I would do it every day. I might even start wearing pants! Fuck it, I might just do it anyways... the flowers, not the pants.)

Victory is mine

Photobucket

I finally found a pair of Justin boots in my size! It's hard for me to really muster up any degree of excitement about winter shoes right now, but I'm pretty stoked on them, and I can't wait till I can wear them sans tights with dresses in the ~*spring*~.

Photobucket

Like this! Here they are with the beautiful dress I have for sale at the moment. I mean, so yeah, I may be a bit biased when it comes to things I'm trying to sell, but this one is a real peach, I'm telling you. It's another one of those if-it-fit-me-I-would-NEVER-let-it-go sadnesses.

Otherwise, I've basically been wearing a variation on the same exact outfit for the last couple of weeks. It's about this time of the year, every year, where I finally give up any hope of ever being able to dress stylishly and/or appropriately during the colder months and just throw in the towel.

OVER IT.

Hands down the best look I've seen from fashion week so far, courtesy of Minimarket.

Sweet JEHOSAPHAT I want that hat...what do you think the odds are that they'll actually make and sell that thing???

Oooh snap!

Our first glimpse at the cover of Lula Magazine #8, featuring model Chanel Iman. Here's the thread over on thefashionspot.

There's a bit of a fuss over it looking too "Antebellum South" or some jazz (looks more fifties-inspired to me, but whut do I know, right?) I, for one, am just flippin' excited.

Promotional

Yup, that's me, age seventeen, on my way to Senior Prom wearing the dress I had Rowan posing in a few posts down.

Look at my freakin' hair! I'd been blonde(ish) my whole life, and then one night I decided I wanted to dye it brown. Just like that. It ended up turning out almost black. It was so strange to look into a mirror and barely even recognize myself at first! By this time it had started to fade out a bit, and over the next several years I would go from brown back to blonde and then red, making pit stops at nearly every shade in between.

Oh man guys, my hair and I, we've been through a lot...it took a helluva long time and an awful lot of dollars and tears to settle on my current incarnation. I think I'll be sticking with it for a good long while.

I don't know about you guys, but lately it's become a bit of a rare treat to come across a fashion editorial that actually inspires me. I feel like I've been gradually slipping further and further away from what's popular in fashion's main stream (and even many of its more alternative channels.)

Which is why I was excited to see these scans from the February 2009 issue of Flair. Dark but still playful, vintage without being kitschy. Plus, I've already got a lot of clothes like these--now all I have to do is work on the hair...

technicolor zombie-face

Photobucket

This is my favorite outfit right now, as it combines many of my greatest interests: things my boyfriend gives me (the shirt), my knit vest (because it is the greatest vest in the world), and fringe (if I could construct an entire outfit solely out of fringe, I would in a heartbeat. "It's a car-wash, ladies and gentlemen!")

I had to put on my grotty old tights and boots when I left the house, but I've officially decided that what goes on outside doesn't have to count anymore until the weather is consistently above 60 degrees.

So there.

These are photos that I took of my friend Rowan when I was sixteen or seventeen. That was quite a few years ago, but somehow I feel like they sort of fit in with the dark, Gothic overtones that are currently so permeating the fashion world.

But really, they mostly just make me laugh. We were only kids, but we were sooo serious!

(Coincidentally, this is also the dress I wore to senior prom!)

I love this video of Ida Pyk changing her clothes in some sort of bus depot/parking lot. Mostly because I have done this myself many, many times (but she makes it look gooood...)

the handmade lover

Photobucket

I just discovered this incredibly adorable little etsy shop, Kit-Bit-S. They also have a real life store in Thailand, pictured above.

From what I gather (and choose firmly to believe) the shop is run by three sisters, affectionately referred to as "Kitty" "Rabbit" and "Squirrel" (which is also where the name comes from, get it?) The etsy portion is run by Rabbit, the eldest, and includes both vintage and handmade items, basically every single one of which I would like to run around in this Spring. I mean...

...OH HELLO yellow and white bunny print (!!!)

Photobucket

This one already sold but maaaybe if cry every night/pray every day, it'll come back to me? SO PRETTY. KIT-BIT-S.

Hatchy-Matchy

Photobucket

For some reason I really love Kirsten's outfit. Maybe it's the coat (ok, that's definitely part of it), maybe it's the littlest hint of polka dots peepin' out, or maybe it's the fact that her bag...

Photobucket

...matches her nailpolish which matches her lipstick? I'm a sucker for the details!

My Favorite Movies, Part 1 of ?

Recently, Hannah made a post of clips from some of her favorite movies, and it got me all excited to do the same. I can't even remember a time when movies weren't a central part of my life, I always tear up at least once during the Oscars, and being a Film Studies major means I get to spend many of my days sitting in the dark watching light take the shape of strange, beautiful, perplexing stories.

So here are some little chunks of a few films that mean a lot to me. I'm sure I'm making many vast oversights that I'll remember as I'm trying to fall asleep tonight, so you can definitely look forward to a part two (three? Four?)...

Harold and Maude (Hal Ashby, 1971)

Badlands (Terrence Malick, 1975)

Rushmore (Wes Anderson, 1998)

Black Cat, White Cat (Emir Kusturica, 1998)

The Passenger/Professione: reporter (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1975)

Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch, 1995)

True Stories: Talking Heads (David Byrne, 1996)

Joe Versus the Volcano
(John Patrick Shanley, 1990)

I find this equal parts hilarious, amazing and inevitable. Most importantly, however, I want that jacket on the far right like WHOA.

Those Shoes!

I don't know who makes them, but they make me go crazy.
